ZOS Payton Knighten
Higher Education Scholarship
The Zeta Omicron Sigma Alumnae Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. was chartered on
May 17, 1986, in Bolingbrook, IL. As an organization, Sigma Gamma Rho strives to enhance the quality of life of women and their families in the US and globally through community service, civic, and social action. Our goal is to achieve greater service in the areas of education, health awareness, and leadership development. Our members, affiliates, staff and community partners work to create and support initiatives that align with our vision.

The Zeta Omicron Sigma Alumnae Chapter works tirelessly in Bolingbrook, Illinois and the surrounding communities to ensure that these tenets are met, by offering the Zeta Omicron Sigma, Higher Education Scholarship to deserving high school seniors, and collegiate students, furthering their education at the college or university of their choice. Scholarships will be awarded in the amount of $1000 each.

Our scholarship is named after Payton Knighten, who was a member of Zeta Omicron Sigma's Rhoer Club affiliate group. Rhoer Knighten was an amazing young woman who exemplified the qualities of high scholastic achievement and service to her community. ​

Scholarship Criteria:
​
1. High school seniors OR currently enrolled college students planning to attend a regionally accredited college or university in the fall of 2026
2. G.P.A. of at least a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale or 4.0 on a 5.0 scale
(An unofficial transcript must be provided at time of application submission.)
3. Letter of verification of community service/extracurricular activities on organization's letterhead (High school students)
4. Essay of at least 500 words (See prompt on application)
5. Submit letter of recommendation from a teacher, counselor, or community leader to sgrhozos.scholarship@gmail.com, by 04/10/2026.
6. Open to all young women in Bolingbrook and surrounding areas whose academic and social service performance align with the vision of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.
7. Submit application and all supporting documentation by 04/10/2026.
